Earthsense is a collection of published material written by eco-journalist Rashmi De Roy, currently based in the United Arab Emirates.

The original researched writing found on these pages covers a wide spectrum of environment issues. There are articles that talk of many modern day concerns and their lifestyle impact: frankenstein foods, unleaded petrol, PET, oily waste on the seas, greening of the desert, air supply in our cities, eco friendly plastics, and the new green fashion in clothing.

These pages also have various articles on recycling in countries like Japan, Austria and the UAE; and their subject matter covers glass, computer waste and plastics. Conservation is another key issue that the author focuses on, as in the stories on water and marine wealth.

The author also provides informative insight into local institutions & organizations and their contribution towards protection of the environment. You can read about UAE based Zayed International Prize for the Environment, SONY Gulf, Biosaline Research Center, and the Environmental Research and Wildlife Development Agency.

After personally visiting various sanctuaries, nature reserves and other protected areas in the Emirates, Ms De Roy has written on the Jabal Ali Wildlife Sanctuary, the Al Wathba Lake, the Khor Kalba mangroves, and nature's own jewel in the area: Sir Baniyas Island.

And occassionally, she writes about some of nature's grave mysteries. Like the recent piece she did on a vulture species that is dying. A whodunit: What's killing the cleaners?

Rashmi De Roy's writings over the last three years have been for a regular column in Dubai based Friday magazine. On this site, they are categorized chronologically, with the most recent ones being available in Gallery 2000. Older material is available in Gallery I and Gallery II.

{The Galleries are a bit graphically intensive and may take a few extra seconds to load. A non-graphic index is available at this index page}
